Creating the Canadian racing stars of the future
Sunoco and renowned Canadian race driver Ron Fellows collaborated to form the Sunoco Ron Fellows Karting Championship. With the help of the world sporting authority, ASN Canada FIA, the series was formed and became operational in 2002.
Objectives
- Foster a professional environment for kart drivers.
- Instill a positive attitude around appearance, conduct and discipline in racing.
- Use best practices for the safe and fair running of competitions.
- Help kart drivers move up to automobile racing.
The achievement of these objectives has been impressive, with more than 200 young racers competing in the series. There are nine different classes in the series, from Canada Junior Light (9 to 15 years of age – 7 horsepower karts capable of achieving 85 km/h) to Formula Senior (15-plus years of age – 42 horsepower six-speed shifter karts capable of 150 km/h).
